Sales of the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 at Verizon Wirelss aren't particularly impressive according to a number of sources and according to one high profile tech commentator, it might be due to the anticipated arrival of the iPhone 5 in four months.

Veteran journalist Harry McCracken noted that the Verizon iPhone 4 did not spur as much as an "insanity" as the iPhone 4 at launch and one of his theories is that potential CDMA iPhone customers are waiting for the iPhone 5, which we predict will be launched on the 6th of June 2011.

McCracken says it makes sense for customers to wait a few more months having waited for more than four years already. He adds that the iPhone 4 now has no novelty about it, that those who wanted to have an iPhone 4 from Verizon have already purchased it and in fact the magic of the iPhone may be wearing off a a little.
Oh, and we may add another one: between the launch of the iPhone 4 and the Verizon model, a slew of competitive Android handsets has inundated the market.

Back in June 2010 when the iPhone 4 was presented, there were only the Motorola Droid and the HTC Desire as worthy Apple competitors; this number has now increased ten fold by our own estimates.

It is widely believed that Apple will have a CDMA-ready iPhone 5 at launch, based on the fact that it will use a Qualcomm baseband processor, one that will also be compatible with GSM technology.
