Apple’s iPhone is without a doubt one of the (if not the single) most talked about smartphones on the market. This level of hype was pushed up a couple notches when Verizon launched their own version of the iPhone 4, but still left us wondering what’s next.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll probably know that rumors have been circulating regarding Apple launching a new, downsized iPhone. According to these rumors, this iPhone would be cheaper than the iPhone 4 but would retain many of the same features thus appealing to those looking to get down on iOS but not break the bank. Well, if you were hoping for such an iPhone you may be discouraged to hear that the New York Times have gotten an anonymous tip saying Apple is not developing a smaller iPhone. What they did say however is that Apple is currently pondering the idea of a cheaper iPhone and are almost done with the next generation iPhone in addition to making MobileMe free.

Considering this is an anonymous source we cannot yet confirm its validity so we’ll have to keep you posted as more news is made known.
