According to a roadmap leaked on the internet, Dell has at least nine new handheld products in the pipeline for this year. A report on Android Central and Windows Phone Central said Dell is expected to overhaul its tablet lineup with the launch of four new devices, including one based on the rumoured next-generation Windows 8 OS.
The company also plans to catch on the Android frenzy with the launch of new smartphones based on the Google's open source platform in the coming months.
Dell Wrigley, running on Windows Phone 7, is expected to have a QWERTY slider. Featuring a 4-inch WVGA (800x480) screen, Wrigley will be powered by 1GHz CPU. According to the report, the phone will have a 8 megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD video. This phone is expected to arrive in August.
The second handset, Dell Hancock, will come with Android Ice Cream update (that follows the Honeycomb update) and will pack a dual-core processor. It will sport a 4-inch qHD (quarter high definition) touchscreen 960x540 display, 8 megapixel camera and 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calling. The phone will most likely hit the market in September.
Dell Millennium, which is expected to come in October, will also run on Android Ice Cream. The phone will feature a 4.3-inch qHD display with 960x540 pixel resolution, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording and front facing VGA camera. The phone will support DLNA technology. DLNA is a standard for sharing videos, photos, music and other media from device to device using HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface).
The roadmap also gives a peek into the four new tablets that Dell is currently working on. According to the report, two tablets will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, one would be based on Windows 7 and the other will run Microsoft's rumoured Windows 8 OS.
Codenamed Peju, the Windows 8 tablet, will feature a 10-inch display and is tipped to launch in the first quarter of 2012.
The Windows 7-based tablet, called Rosemount, too will sport a 10-inch display with 1366x768 HD resolution. The tablet is expected to hit the market by June.
Dell Gallo will have a 10-inch display and will run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The other 7-inch display tablet called Sterling too will pack Android 3.0 and is expected to come in October.
