It’s all but confirmed that Apple‘s next-generation smartphone will launch with an integrated NFC chip, but according to the latest reports, the iPhone 5‘s technology will take a different approach to that found on Android-toting handsets.

Analyst Brian White, of Ticonderoga Securities, noted to investors at MWC that the Apple iPhone 5 will implement NFC capabilities with “a twist that will make it unique versus his peers.” Of course, there was no indication as to what this so-called “twist” would be.

According to Apple Insider, the Cupertino giant might integrate NFC chips into both its iPhones and Macs, to allow for RFID-enabled “remote computing.” If true, such technology would allow users to securely turn a nearby Mac into their own personal computer, complete with custom settings, personal passwords, and even desktop backgrounds. Apple are also rumoured to be developing a feature called “Products+”, enabling shoppers to view promotions and vouchers.

With O2 Telefonica preparing to launch a mobile-payments application for the upcoming smartphone, it will also act as make-shift electronic wallet and Oyster Card.
