The Big Brother racism argument has hit a climax today, as the Carphone Warehouse has suspended its sponsorship deal with the show. Prompted by the predictable intervention from media regulator Ofcom. Ofcom were forced to investigate after channel 4 received 30,000 complaints of racism and bullying towards contestant Shilpa. The Bollywood star has millions of fans across India. In her home town of Mumbai, she lives in luxury with her own servants.

"At home she is waited upon. She has her own entourage, everything is done for her, " her mother Sunanda Shetty said. "She did not do it (Big Brother) for the money - she has two films coming out. But she wanted to experience this on her own. It would also show her something of the other side of life and help her personal growth. But we never in our wildest imagination thought it would reach the situation it has today." (Skynews.com)

Jade Goody and her mother Jackey are centred at the racism row, as are two other contestants. An argument in the house yesterday between Jade and Shilpa brought about the first complaint from Shilpa. Before then, she had never suggested to Big Brother she felt bullied.

"You need a day in the slums. (Swearing) go in your community and go to all those people who look up to you and be real. You (swearing) fake," she said. Lloyd later said Shetty should "(Swearing) off home", adding: "She can't even speak English properly." (Skynews.com)
