Armed Forces To Axe An Extra 7,000 Penpushers In Shock Civilan Jobs Cull -- Daily Mail

The Ministry of Defence will axe a further 7,000 penpushers in a desperate bid to bring its spiralling budget under control, it was revealed today.

The shock cull of civilian jobs was announced in a letter from the cash-strapped department's top bureaucrat Ursula Brennan.

Staff were already reeling from Defence Secretary Liam Fox's pledge to cut 25,000 civil service posts by 2015 in a bid to help the MoD grapple with a £38billion deficit in its finances.

Britain's Ministry Of Defence Staff Know How To Use Their Credit Cards

Ministry Of Defence Spends £1 Billion On Staff Credit Cards -- The Telegraph

Officials and senior military figures at the Ministry of Defence have spent almost £1 billion on taxpayer-funded credit cards at a time when thousands of soldiers are facing redundancy, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Over the past four years, the MoD spent £986,041,110 on department credit cards, far more than any other government body. The disclosure will add to concerns over the management of the ministry, which is grappling with a multi-billion pound black hole in its finances.

Last night the MoD refused to follow other departments in publishing a breakdown of expenditure on the cards, which would identify any questionable purchases. It is understood that the bill includes spending on travel and hotels.

My Comment: Spending on what? My guess .... food, wine, entertainment, and little nick-knacks (cough cough).
